My Advice for you:
* Be prepared for the Internship, meaning you are responsible for everything that you need to do.
* Go somewhere that you can eat whatever you want.
* Have respect for your mentor. Don't be rude.
* Ask for more tasks if you have extra time. That way you learn more and the time passes quickly.
* If someone is bothering you, just tell them to leave you alone. Then go back to work.

The Interview_ Advertisement Assignment

My mentor's name is Fela Pierre Louis. She was born in Haiti, Port-Au-Prince. She went to Ohio Antioch College for 4 years. She would like to go back to school. Her major in college was Social Science. She did not go to graduate school for an advanced degree.

She chose this professional field because she likes to help people. A lot of Haitians don't have a lot of things in life: they can't find good jobs, and they face struggles. She likes working with children. She involved herself in this field of work because she's Haitian. She was inspired to do it because her mom did not know it. She chose this particular job at this particular company because she want to be involved in the Haitian community. She has worked for a year and half.

Her job title is "Girls Empowerment Specialist." Her duties include teaching leadership and preparing high school and junior high school girls for college. The best part of her job is the girls that she has worked with. Something that she would like to change about her job is only working 40 hours a week instead of 60 hours.

She worked somewhere else before this job at Project Reach Youth for 6 months. It was similar because she still was working with teenagers and different because it was not Haitian Community. In the future in this company, she wants to grow the program.

She enjoys the kind of work she has been doing. She also loves it because she helps teenagers with life. She plans to open her own business one day. A piece of advice that she would like to give to the teenaged intern is to stay focused, go to school, and become something like a doctor. Keep motivated.

Midpoint Reflection Due Friday April 16.

My internship at "Dwa Fanm" has been the same every single day. The environment at Dwa Fanm and IHSL is similar because people are friendly with me.

Some new skills that I had learned that I can apply at other jobs is 1) to be a receptionist because I been answering the phone every single day, 2) to be a secretary because I always organize the papers very good.

I don't really have an relationship with my mentor or co-workers at all. My English is still the same since beginning of my internship because I never have a chance to communicate with them because I don't have anything to say. The challenges at my internship that I have been faced with is to file the documents away by the person's name, I never had a chance to overcome them because I had to leave to do something else.

I did not face any problems in school as a result of the altered schedule and even through I do I would never had a chance to handling them. What I would like to accomplish during the remaining weeks, is to do another task beside what I do every single day. A new thing that I have learned about New York City as a result is many woman in New York face many challenges when their husbands beat them up and abuse them.

Four Weeks into internship-Due Friday March 25

The full name of my Internship is Dwa Fanm (meaning "Women's Rights" in Creole).
My job title is Program Assistant. The kind of service that my company provides is domestic violence and immigration counseling, advocacy for womens rights and makes referrals to different agencies.Three tasks that I have been doing regularly at my internship site is organizing and shredding office documents, creating case files. The three qualities that I have noticed about my mentor in the last four weeks are she is friendly and nice to new co-workers and also helpful. The memorable moment at my first three weeks are asking people what can I do for them, and sitting down with my friend laughing at each other and making fun of each other.Something that I really enjoy about my internship is talking on the phone. The most challenging part of my internship is filing documents away.

My internship site is located in Park Slope. Actually I leave school at 11:30 each day and I get to my internship at 12:30. I work until 4:30 and sometimes I get home around 6:10 each day. My schedule at Dwa Fanm on Tuesdays,Wednesdays and Thursdays I work from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. My mentor signs my time card and when she's not there an alternative supervisor signs for me and before I leave they always say "thank you for your time."

My First Two Weeks ( Feb.22-March 4)

The very first day of my Internship I was so excited and ecstatic because it was my first time going to work. I traveled with my friend on the train and talked about the job. We were wondering what kind of job it would be, what task we would be doing, if the people would be mean to us.

When we got there,I was very surprised because they introduced us to our new co-workers then they showed us what to do then we left. The next day when we got there ,we made copies for the mentor, then arranged the fliers in different categories.then they told us how to dress to come to work.At my internship I am a receptionist. I pick up the phone, transfer people to other staff members and when people come I tell them to sign they name.

I really like my internship because I am sitting at my office, working at computer something I did not expect to do.

Where I am working, my mentor looks very nice to me but I think she is a strict person and I am not used to that. My first time when I arrived at my internship Ms. Fela showed me what to do. The types of work I have been doing is to call people to make appointments. There is nothing at all challenging. Maybe my mentor won't give us difficult tasks for the first few weeks.

I am happy to have an internship like that but sometimes I wish I had more tasks to do. Maybe I can ask Ms. Fela spelling for more work.
