My mentor's name is Fela Pierre Louis. She was born in Haiti, Port-Au-Prince. She went to Ohio Antioch College for 4 years. She would like to go back to school. Her major in college was Social Science. She did not go to graduate school for an advanced degree.
She chose this professional field because she likes to help people. A lot of Haitians don't have a lot of things in life: they can't find good jobs, and they face struggles. She likes working with children. She involved herself in this field of work because she's Haitian. She was inspired to do it because her mom did not know it. She chose this particular job at this particular company because she want to be involved in the Haitian community. She has worked for a year and half.
Her job title is "Girls Empowerment Specialist." Her duties include teaching leadership and preparing high school and junior high school girls for college. The best part of her job is the girls that she has worked with. Something that she would like to change about her job is only working 40 hours a week instead of 60 hours.
She worked somewhere else before this job at Project Reach Youth for 6 months. It was similar because she still was working with teenagers and different because it was not Haitian Community. In the future in this company, she wants to grow the program.
She enjoys the kind of work she has been doing. She also loves it because she helps teenagers with life. She plans to open her own business one day. A piece of advice that she would like to give to the teenaged intern is to stay focused, go to school, and become something like a doctor. Keep motivated.
